Killing The Light

"I don't know exactly what makes a band or an artist becomes an object of "cult", so I don't know if Black Rebel Motorcycle Club fits into this category. What I do know is that there are many other things - musical events, plays, films, works of art - that have no place within the mainstream niche, we didn't find an identity in the preponderant culture, and therefore, we're looking for different spaces where transmit our messages, wich are not heard or understood by those involved in commercial culture.

All these acts and independent media, like BRMC and Abstract Dragon (BRMC's label), even when they are not necessarily linked as part of a definite movement, are united by a common goal: to express what those who don't have no place in the hegemonic culture, want to express.

After all, not knowing whether or not we're a group or act or product or means of "cult", we're the voice of independence, marginality and rebellion, and that's more valuable and necessary in this world than many may believe."

This is an editorial written by Peter Hayes for "WARP Magazine", Mexico, June 20

Black Rebel Motorcycle Club released their fifth studio album, Beat The Devil’s Tattoo, last March (Abstract Dragon/Vagrant Records) which was hailed a ‘gritty good time’ by SPIN Magazine. Since the records’ release, the trio has toured the states and crossed the pond to bring their hooks to fans across the globe. Today, Black Rebel Motorcycle Club are pleased to announce the release of an iTunes Live Session, complete with seven live tracks (including material off of Beat The Devil’s Tattoo). The album will be made available digitally, exclusively from iTunes tomorrow, September 14th. Track listing can be found below.
Immediately following the release of their iTunes Live Sessions, Black Rebel Motorcycle Club will join Stone Temple Pilots in San Diego for a month-long national jaunt. Kicking off September 15th, the tour will take BRMC from California to Florida with stops in almost every state along the path.
Black Rebel Motorcycle Club’s blend of country stomp and their signature wall-of-shoegaze fuzz has garnered extensive praise from the press with Rolling Stone penning BRMC’s newest venture “unremittingly grim, and undeniably fun. Few bands wear their frowns so well.” Don’t miss your chance to see BRMC’s show this fall with STP or at a few select headline dates, and be sure to get your copy of the iTunes Live Sessions tomorrow!

At Splendour In The Grass

BRMC in NYC @ Don Hill's

By: Willow Lindley

It seemed like last night was all about the re-openings. As the Chanel party dispersed in SoHo last night, two distinct fashion crowds went their separate ways. The cockail-dress set headed uptown to party the night away at (the spot formerly know as) the Boom Boom Room, but our favorite grungsters headed downtown to Nur Khan and Paul Sevigny's newest outfit, the new and improved Don Hill's. Collaborating with DeLeón Tequila, the former Beatrice boys welcomed the Black Rebel Motorcycle Club into their new bar/concert space that had us thinking we'd stepped back into the early '90s. As we plunged our way into the crowded, dark, smoky, and graffiti filled space (all those adjectives needed to be used), we saw familiar faces from the Beatrice Inn days—Chloë Sevigny, Josh Hartnett, Annabelle Dexter-Jones, and Erin Wasson all got into the groove of the super rare performance by BRMC. The place was packed, the drinks were muy strong, the music deafining (in a good way), everyone was just letting loose—not a bad way to start off Fashion Week—though our hangover might just disagree. Hey, at least tequila is an upper!
